<p> It can be hard to be a parent these days, especially when it comes to feeding your kids. Children can be really fussy eaters, so it can be too <span id="more-247"></span>easy to whip up a bowl of mac and cheese or a hot dog for dinner. This is alright every once in a while, but if you make a habit out of serving these types of food, you could be depriving your kids of the vitamins, minerals and nutrients their growing bodies need.</p>
<p>Since recently I&rsquo;ve got a While kids absolutely love pizza, sweets, hamburgers, french fries, chips and soda, these foods do not offer much nutritional value and they are very high in sugar and fat. Instead, parents should be feeding their kids foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables like carrots, bananas and apples. You can even make these foods fun by serving their bananas with peanut butter or putting a small amount of ranch dressing on the side to dip their carrots in. </p>
<p>Healthy eating has everything to do with how you serve your kids as well. For instance, many parents expect their kids to finish everything on their plate before they can have dessert. In a sense, you could be over feeding them by doing this. Instead, have your kids eat until they feel satisfied (provided they have eaten most of their dinner) and then have them wait for about a half hour to an hour before serving them dessert. This will allow their little bodies to digest their food which is better than trying to stuff them with everything all at once. </p>
<p>If your kids are giving you a hard time eating healthy foods, you can trick them a little bit. The next time you serve your kids pizza, add a few extra vegetables on it. Pancakes and muffins can easily hide fruits such as bananas or peaches. By doing this, your kids will still love what they are eating and getting the healthy foods as well.</p>

<p>When going on a diet, one would tend to assume that you would strike off carbohydrates from your food list first. That&rsquo;s where most of us go wrong. To lose inches or pounds you need not banish carbs entirely from your plate. Instead you need to get to know what carbohydrates are healthy, because you do need your energy everyday and carbohydrates as everyone knows are the richest source of energy. You also need to know what carbohydrates are better <span id="more-177"></span>avoided. Lifestyles have changed over the years. Our ancestors were more physical activity oriented and hence burned off whatever carbohydrates they consumed and they ate without referring to calorie charts. Manual labor was the order of the day then. With changing lifestyles and modern technology we get to do very little with our hands and legs these days. In fact with computers ruling everyday life the only parts of your body that gets the most exercise are probably your finger tips. Hence there is a need to recognize how much of carbohydrates and what type you can consume without accumulating them and turning them into stubborn fat <a href="http://www.storage.co.uk/">storage</a> sometime soon.</p>

<p>Carbohydrates with a low glycemic index are the safer forms of carbohydrates that any weight watcher can include in their diet. These types of carbohydrates convert to sugar at a slower rate than carbohydrates with high GI. Foods with low GI are typically those that are natural and contain whole grains, high fiber, fruits, vegetables and pulses. Cutting down entirely on your carbohydrates will only wear you down faster as your energy source gets limited. So get to know your low GI carbohydrates and add on a generous share of them in your diet everyday. Not only will you benefit from the nutritional value, you will also lose those offending pounds by not consuming the not so beneficial high GI carbohydrates.</p>

<p>Has your GP told you to lower your cholesterol or improve your diet? One of the easiest changes to make is lowering your consumption of meat. This can seem impossibly difficult to some who thinks to do this they need a fancy new cookbook or a lot of time, but the truth is that there are a lot of easy and quick <a href="http://www.schwartz.co.uk/recipes.cfm">online recipes</a> out there that cater towards healthy living and eating. Think of creative ways of taking your <span id="more-167"></span>family favourites and making them into veggie delights. Here are four really easy suggestions:</p>
<p>1. Veggie Spaghetti Bolognese: In your favourite recipe replace the ground mince with finely chopped green peppers, onions, mushrooms and a tin of drained green lentils.</p>
<p>2. Shepherds Pie: Dry veggie sausage mix that you can get from either Holland and Barrett, ASDA or your local health food shop, is very economical and very versatile. Add water according to the package directions and then fry as you would mince.</p>
<p>3. Creative Curries: You can do a veg curry with potatoes, carrots, peas, runner beans, and mushrooms, but what if you want something more substantial? Try cooked and halved hard boiled eggs, lightly fried tofu chunks, or some veggie convenience food like falafel or veggie chicken chunks. One of my favourites is a veggie kofta with a mix of dried veggie sausage mix, grated mushrooms and breadcrumbs. Bake it in the oven and simmer gently in your curry sauce.</p>
<p>4. Mash and Gravy: Except add something bright green and delicious to the mash and make the gravy substantial with mushrooms and onions. I personally like to add finely chopped fresh spinach to the drained potatoes, or chopped broccoli in the last minutes of cooking. You can serve it with veggie sausage, or add lots of veggies to the gravy to make it more of a stew. </p>
<p>It takes a bit of practice to remove some of the meat from your diet, but don&rsquo;t be intimidated. Just one or two meals a week can put you on the road to a healthier lifestyle. </p>
