The Real Fountain of Youth
How many fantastical stories mention the fountain of youth as a remedy for the wicked effects of ageing? Turns out that laser hair removal birmingham and all these other treatments may not be the best way forward; We’re better off scrapping the notion of drinking from a pool of water that makes you eternally young and just jumping straight in. In fact, any pool of water will do.
Now swimming will not make you eternally young but it will undoubtedly delay the deteriorating symptoms of moving through time. It is known to increase cardiovascular function; strengthen muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints; reduce fat stores and release endorphins. It is true that most forms of exercise will do the same, but swimming has further advantages.
The water holds your weight so you don’t have to, this lowers stress on the body, especially around the joints. This makes it ideal for those who want to lose weight without damaging their body due to excess body fat. Anybody who wants to exercise but hates to sweat can utilise the fact that you are submerged in water: you will not look or feel at all sweaty. Added to this, depending on the variety of techniques learnt, swimming can work most of the muscles in the body. All you have to worry about is keeping yourself from drowning!
Another exercise in the water that is often overlooked is treading water. Staying afloat for as long as possible works the core muscles (the muscles of the trunk and lower back) and is an effective cardiovascular enhancer. This is most effective towards the deep end of the swimming pool but is safest to the side (where you can reach out and save yourself).
Mixing up the type of stroke (butterfly, front-crawl, breast-stroke, etc.) in a session will aid swift recovery of the muscles and lead to a more thorough work-out. By changing techniques you should also find a little more mental stimulation to stop any tedium creeping in.
Swimming shouldn’t be saved just for your holidays in the sun, use it as a holiday-body developer and see improved results in every area of life.
